Due to the nature of the works and the fact that this is the first time in-situ recycling had been undertaken using the new technology, and to the specified depth, within the East Riding of Yorkshire area, our Managing Director led several on and offsite meetings with both the client, and our partner sub-contractors. This helped us understand the logistical issues, the clients’ requirements, and agree a programme of works.
Specialist Surfacing have carried out several contracts together utilising in-situ recycling prior to this, but due to the depth of the recycling specified extra care had to be taken to ensure the work was fully planned and understood prior to commencement. This enabled us to ensure that both the budget and the programme was adhered to and the quality of work was unaffected.
This contract involved in-situ recycling of the existing surface to a depth of 250mm, this was carried out by Stabilised Pavements Ltd, excavating the surface and in the same process the material is processed through the excavation machine, where cement dust and water are added before feeding the material directly into Specialist Surfacing’s paving machine which lays the recycled material immediately behind the excavation machine to the required levels.
The paving machine is followed by rollers and a deadweight to ensure sufficient compaction before the new Intermediate Running Surface is laid over the recycled surface. To complete the works white lining and grass verge works were carried out.
